Jerusalem — An Israeli airstrike in Gaza City late Sunday killed seven people, including four Al Jazeera journalists, the network said.
Among the dead was veteran correspondent Anas Al-Sharif, accused by the Israeli military of leading a Hamas cell — a claim he had denied. Fellow reporter Mohammed Qreiqeh and photojournalists Ibrahim Al Thaher and Mohamed Nofal were also killed.
Al Jazeera condemned the strike as an attempt to silence reporting from Gaza. Hospital officials said the journalists were inside a tent marked “Press” near Al-Shifa Hospital at the time.
The Committee to Protect Journalists says 186 reporters have died since the war began nearly two years ago, most of them Palestinians. Foreign media remain barred from independent access to Gaza without Israeli military escort.
